bridles and bits

The bridle is the main way you control your pony. You can stop, steer, slow down and more. Here is a list of the different parts of the bridle .....
The head piece- It goes over the horses head behind the ears and it holds the rest of the bride in place.
.The cheek pieces- There are 2 cheek pieces on either side of the head piece and around the side of the horses along to the bit.
.Throat lash- It is usually part of the same leather as the crown piece. It comes along from the horses right ear and then it attaches below the left ear. Its main purpose is to keep the bridle from coming out of place.
.The brow-band- Runs in front of the ears over the forehead. It prevents the bridle slipping onto the upper neck and holds the throat lash in place. In certain sports the browbands can be decorated.
.The nose band- It encircles around the horses muzzle. It is used to keep the horses mouth shut.
. The reins- the reins are attached to the bit below the cheek pieces. The reins are what the rider uses to control the horse and are seen on every bridle.
.The bit- the bit goes into the horses mouth resting on the sensitive part of the horses teeth known as the bar. you can also have double bridles .

bits
there are lots of different bits and its hard to name them all but they all do different things. here are just a few bits.
[edit]
- snaffle bit : Uses a bit ring at the mouthpiece to apply direct pressure on the bars, tongue and corner of the mouth.
- curb bit : A bit that uses a type of lever called a shank that puts pressure not only on the mouth, but also on the poll and chin groove.
- pelham bit: A single curb bit with two sets of reins attached to rings at the mouthpiece and end of the shank. Partly combines snaffle and curb pressure.
- gag bit:A bit that, depending on design, may outwardly resemble a snaffle or a curb, but with added slots or rings that provide leverage by sliding the bit up in the horse's mouth, a very severe design.
