We groom our ponies for a number of reasons such as to keep them clean, to
circulate the blood and to bond woth them. We use lots of different brushes for
lots of different jobs. A proper groom is about half an hour.

dandy brush

This brush has long bristles used for removeing mud and grease. It is usaually used on less sensitive parts of the body.
Body brush

This brush has soft bristles to remove the grease and dust from the coat.It can be used on more sensitive areas. It must be rubbed over the metal curry comb often so it dosent brush dust back into the coat.

This brush is a square with rows of metal teeth to remove dust from the brushes. It is NOT used on the horses.
Rubber curry comb

A rubber curry has cone shaped bristles to remove mud or loose hair.
water brush

A brush with stiff bristles to be used when applying water to the horses coat, mane or tail dampen or wash the horse.

This brush is similar to a hair brush and is used on the horsesmane and tail.

Theese combs are often metal and is used to comb the mane and tail. It can also be used to pull the mane and helps plaiting.

Hoof picks are metal or plastic and are used for removeing dirt or stones packed in the hooves.
sponge

A spongeis used for cleaning eyes, nose and dock, as well as cleaning wounds.

A sweat scraper consists of a handle and an arched head with rubber edges
and is to wipe away sweat or excess water from the horse after washing.

a stable rubber or good drying up cloth can be dampened and gently wiped over the body to give the horse a final polish .
mane and tail detangler

this gets all the knots and dirt out of your horses tail.

excellent storage boxes for grooming kits.

some horses and ponies grow thick winter coats ,they will sweat a lot if they are doing more than light work. It is often just better for the horse to clip its coat it makes the horse smarter and it is easier to keep them clean. There are lots of different types of clips such as................................
- bib clip-hair on chest underside and neck is clipped of
- trace clip-removes hair from the underside of the neck and throat
- chaser clip-follows a diagonal line from ears to belly leaving hair on the hind quarters
- blanket clip-it leaves a blanket of hair on the back
- full or hunter clip-all the hair except for the legs
